Hardened and psychologically troubled from his time in the NCR military, Boone vacillates between being a stone-cold killer and a decent human being. Description: Boone is a town guard and former NCR sharpshooter, bitterly whittling away the hours until he can find out who’s responsible for his wife’s death - and kill them.Perk: Spotter – While Boone is a companion, hostile targets are highlighted whenever the player is actively aiming. While he appreciates what individual people go through, he firmly believes that it’s more important to affect large-scale societal change than fix problems little by little. Most of Arcade’s concerns about the world around him have to do with large-scale issues rather than the needs of individuals. Description: Arcade is highly ethical and moral, but he understands the post apocalyptic world is one in which sometimes, people just have to be shot in the head.Player regains more health from all sources. Perk: Better Healing – While Arcade is a companion, the.Profession: Doctor, Followers of the Apocalypse New.Like Fallout 3, New Vegas allows you to have one humanoid and one non-humanoid companion at any time.įallout: New Vegas’ senior producer, Jason Bergman, has put together a list of bios for the companions you’ll meet throughout the Wasteland. Take that lesson to heart, my little ninnies. The Mojave Wasteland is a dangerous and desolate place… so you feel the need for some companionship during your adventure. I can’t help but believe that approach would have served Lily better. The greatest stories have always managed to seamlessly interweave comedy and drama, after all. Ultimately, I go back to telling myself Lily is chiefly a comic relief character and I set aside my nitpicking.īut maybe in the hands of a better writer, she could have been something deeper without losing that comic appeal. I feel lines like this, while necessary to show Lily’s a character with a past and not just plot device, tease out more than anything else. Is there a story behind that?Īnd how does she feel about the things she did while she served under the Master back in the time of Fallout 1? I still wonder why her dark side is a male “Leo,” and not a female. There are many unanswered questions with Lily. These half-baked dramatic moments make me wonder if the writers ever intended for Lily’s quest to become even more tightly bound with the Nightkin situation in the Mojave Wasteland. She goes through the experiment and nothing happens to her, eliminating the complex angle of asking her to become a guinea pig in the first place. This situation makes it harder for the sane Super Mutants to exist in peace with the humans.Įventually you get a chance to develop a treatment for the Nightkin’s malaise, but it involves experimentation on Lily.Ī riveting ethical conundrum, right? Well, it would be if we ever saw any effects of the experiment on Lily, adverse or otherwise. Throughout the game you get to see how crazy marauding Nightkin roam the wasteland, some searching for the cloaking devices they’re addicted to, others creating chaos and assaulting human caravans. Well, I was referring to the Nightkin plotline. I wrote before that Lily’s story is more closely connected with the game’s overall plot than Raul ever was. It gets worse with another way in which Lily contributes to one of the game’s larger plotlines. It doesn’t affect her storyline in any visible way.Īnd that’s okay, this is a game, not a movie or a novel, so gameplay comes ahead of everything else–which is not to say it doesn’t miff me that the story fails to build on this until we get to see the ending slides. Either outcome affects only the gameplay in that it makes her a less aggressive or more aggressive fighter respectively. The quest involves encouraging her to take stronger doses of her medicine, or tell her to ditch it altogether. Like Raul, there’s an unmarked quest for Lily, and it involves the audio recordings of her grandchildren and the medicine she needs to keep her psychotic breakdowns in check.
